The Kotak IISc AI-ML Centre (KIAC) was conceived of with the objective of creating a state-of-the-art AI-ML and Fintech Centre at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to (a) develop rigorously trained human resources who will become future leaders of this technology and champion India’s surge in this area, (b) conduct cutting edge research in this area leading to international visibility of the highest order, and (c) develop innovative, deep-tech solutions to meet the current and emerging requirements of the industry.
This vision is turning into reality with a generous funding from the Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited (KMBL), though its corporate social responsibility (CSR) grant.
The Centre was inaugurated on 18 January 2023, and is anchored by a group of faculty members at IISc working in the areas of computer science, data science, and computational science.
KIAC will be a research, education, and innovation hub. It will host key programmes utilising the existing programmes in artificial intelligence (AI) and financial technology (FinTech) at IISc. It will enable additional courses to be offered in AI and Fintech-related topics at the postgraduate level. The Centre will also host the Institute’s outreach programmes, including skill development programmes in AI/machine learning (ML) and data science. The Centre will have modern facilities such as laboratories, computational resources, faculty offices, interaction spaces, smart lecture halls, multimedia auditorium, and audio-visual studio to support collaborative research, education, and innovation in AI and FinTech. These facilities will be used to create high-quality online courses.
